The Eyes of Blenheim Palace

The Eyes of Blenheim Palace

Blenheim Palace, located in Oxford, is the only building in England to bear the title "Palace" without any connection to royalty or the church. One of the most remarkable features of this palace, known as the birthplace of the famous politician Winston Churchill, is the ceiling adorned with eyes. At the main entrance, visitors are greeted by six eyes that stare without blinking. The eyes, created by British war artist Colin Gill, gained admiration from figures such as Marcel Proust, Rodin, and Monet. The homeowner climbed onto the scaffold set up on the ceiling to allow the artist to complete the shadows in the eyes, striking a pose for the artist.
