Let Children Meet With Books

In 2019, we developed a project with the aim of providing visually impaired children equal educational opportunities alongside their peers and facilitating their access to information. Within the scope of this Project we produced 3237 braille printed books of current publications and delivered 18 blind schools in Turkey.  In order to raise funds for the sustainability of the project; we donate all the proceeds from the sale of our books to the education of visually impaired students. Also by the colloboration of non governmental organisations, companies and individual supports we work towards the goal of producing braille edition for every book published in the future. Considering that 58,027 books were published in our country in 2017(TUIK data), the current braille book deficit becomes even more obvious.

IMPORTANCE OF BRAILLE BOOKS

Braille printed books are very important for blind people. Although audio books have provided an excellent additional resource for reading comprehension but listening is not synonymous with reading and studies show that students who can read braille tend to acquire higher literacy rates on average.
WHO IS LOUIS BRAILLE ?

Louis Braille, the inventor of the invention that illuminates the world of visually impaired individuals, was born on January 4, 1809, in France. Braille accidentally stabbed his eye with a knife he found in his father’s workshop, resulting in incorrect treatment and eventual blindness. While studying at the School for the Blind, a military officer named Charles Barbier visited the school. Barbier had designed a system called "night writing" for soldiers to read messages without the need for light and without speaking to each other. However, due to its complexity, this system was not used. Louis Braille worked on this unused system and invented the braille alphabet that is used today.
